[About the Takasaki Daruma]

Takasaki in Gunma Prefecture (formerly Jōshū) is known for its history of silk farming.

Silkworms molt four times before making their cocoons, and the moment they emerge from their old skin is called “okiru” — to rise.

This connects with the Daruma’s famous meaning: “Nanakorobi Yaoki” (Fall down seven times, get up eight).

For generations, silk farmers worshipped Daruma as a symbol of resilience and good fortune.
